Whitehorse – ArtsCan Circle (click here for more details)
Grant Simpson, Kate Weekes and Steve Slade will be hosting an ArtsCan Circle Information session and Film Screening of the wonderful documentary of Mike Stevens and the creation of ArtsCan Circle.
This is a wonderfully inspiring film and ArtsCan circle is doing stellar work in the Northern communities of Canada, working with children and music.
The Mike Stevens documentary “A Walk in my Dream” will be screened at the Old Fire Hall in Whitehorse on December 7th at 7:00 p.m.
Here’s some more information:
A Walk in my Dream features musician Mike Stevens, who is probably the only harmonica player in the World to appear on the Grand Ol’ Opry stage more than 300 times; give himself eight hernias because of the way he plays; and be named Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky for his outstanding contribution to bluegrass music. Ten years ago, at the top of his game, Mike’s career took a sudden and drastic detour when he found himself face to face with a group of Labrador youth living in unimaginable conditions. His life would never be the same…and neither would theirs. This event lead to Mike founding the ArtsCan Circle program linking creative artists with youth and providing workshops in the arts for Indigenous youth in isolated communities in the North.
