Rick Keating’s Neighbourhood House Open Mic

Once in a while you hear something that you simply can’t let go of.  Two years ago I attended the Atlin Music Festival and went to a workshop with Kate Weekes, Brenda Berezan and Leslie Alexander.  I had never heard Leslie before and she performed a tune written by Vancouver’s Rick Keating called “Growing the Corn”.  The song captivated me and hasn’t let go since.

To make a long story short, I caught up with Leslie on Facebook and asked her about the song and it’s composer and she told me how to get in touch with him.  I called Rick and had a great discussion with him today and he asked me to do a featured set at his open mic when I’m in Vancouver next. 

The date is set as per the upcoming shows.  I really look forward to meeting Rick and hearing more of his songs and to performing some of my songs at his open mic.
