2nd Class – Basic Chord Progressions
November 23 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Session one: We will answer the question “Why do they refer to the chords by numbers?” as in a 1-4-5. And then to make matters even more confusing – “Why do they sometimes refer to notes as numbers?” as in “The 3rd or The 9th”.
If I can give you all a good understanding of those two questions in the first session – we will have really got somewhere. It’s a bit of a tangle to explain it, so I will have it spelled out as clearly as I can on paper for you to see as we go through it.
Session two: Now that we understand how the numbers work – we will look at the different combinations of chord patterns or progressions. This is the basic foundation of how all songs are created. All melodies and words ride on top of “chord progressions”. So understanding them will really help you understand the songs you are playing in a whole new way.
Session three: We will analyze songs from our hopeful jammers book together so we can put all our new knowledge to work. Plus we will have some listening tests to see if we can identify the chord progressions just by hearing them.
